Menopause Symptoms

There are more symptoms associated with menopause than a lot of women realize.  It isn’t just all about the hot flashes and the lack of the menstruation cycle.  There are so many more and below is a list of a few of them.

  • Loss of libido – During menopause a lot of women lose their interest in sex completely.  It simply happens to some women because of the hormonal imbalance that occurs during menopause.
  • Vaginal Dryness – This too can occur during menopause and it can be uncomfortable for a woman.  You can however, buy some type of over the counter lubricant to help get the lubrication you need during sex if needed.
  • Mood swings – You can be happy one minute and sad the next, bursting out into tears for no apparent reason.  It’s all because of the hormonal imbalance.  These too can be treated, but talk to your doctor to make sure the mood swings are in direct line with menopause and not another underlying condition.
  • Fatigue – You may feel weak, tired and have no energy at all.  This is common in those going through menopause.  Talk to your doctor about treatment options for fatigue when it is associated with menopause.
  • Sleep Disorders – Because of all of the changes that are occurring in your body sometimes sleep problems begin to arise also.  You might have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.
  • Difficulty concentrating – Losing focus on a task at hand or being unable to concentrate for an extended period of time can occur during menopause.
  • Dizziness – In some cases because of the hormonal imbalances, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded.  This is normal during menopause but should be handled carefully.
  • Weight gain – Putting on some additional pounds during menopause can occur also.  Exercising regularly can help to keep some of the weight off that you might otherwise gain.
  • Change in fingernails – During menopause you may notice that your fingernails become more brittle and break easier than they used to.
  • Depression – During menopause you might struggle with some bouts of depression.  This can occur in relation to the hormonal imbalances that your body is facing.  Talk with your doctor about depression.
  • Irritability – In some cases feeling irritable is normal during menopause.  It doesn’t affect everyone, but it can occur.
  • Soreness of breasts – When you are going through menopause you might find that your breasts are tenderer than they normally are.  The slightest touch can make them hurt or feel uncomfortable.

During menopause you may experience all of these symptoms or none of these symptoms but they are something to look for.  If you do experience any of these symptoms talk with your doctor about the options that are available to help you.
