Supplements for Menopause

If you are suffering from menopause symptoms and you really aren’t into taking any type of prescription medication then supplements might be your answer.  You can find them in vitamins that you take or in herbs that are all natural.  A lot of these supplements can naturally relieve a lot of the symptoms that you feel during menopause. Face it, they are uncomfortable and irritating and in some cases can completely interfere with your life as you know it.  But there are many supplements out there that can make you feel better naturally while getting your body back into the balance that it needs to thrive.

Black Cohosh can be used to help treat the hot flashes that you suffer from during the day and the night sweats you currently endure during the night.  If you suffer from any type of liver condition do not use black cohosh as it can cause your condition to deteriorate.

Flax seed can also help to reduce mild menopause symptoms.  You can grind it up and put it on any meal that you are preparing and you won’t even know that it’s there since the taste will be minimal.

Calcium will also need to be considered as you go through menopause.  Your bones will become weaker and your chances of osteoporosis will increase.  Getting enough calcium in your diet will help to reduce  those odds.  Rather than taking it in some type of pill form, incorporate it into your diet throughout the day by drinking milk or eating cheese.

Vitamin D – Get out and enjoy the sun (with a sunscreen, of course!) and soak up that Vitamin D.  You need Vitamin D just as much as you need calcium for your body to thrive.  You can take a Vitamin D supplement, but you can also spend 15 – 20 minutes every day in the sun and it is just as beneficial.  Use caution when in the sun though and don’t stay out too long.

Ginseng is a good to help give you that extra boost you might need for your mood and can help to improve your sleep.  Getting more sleep can make you wake up with the energy you need to make through your days.  You won’t feel tired and your mood will be better each morning.

St. John’s Wort is helpful for increasing your mood.  One symptom of menopause is depression and St. John’s Wort can help to make you feel better all around.

Adding soy to your diet either through tofu or soy milk can be beneficial to those who suffer from hot flashes or night sweats.  Increase the amount of soy in your diet to help you feel better overall and to decrease the chance of hot flashes.
